Molla urges merging biological diversity into energy sector

SHARM EL SHEIKH – 15 November 2018: Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla stressed on Thursday that merging biological diversity into energy and other sectors is the only way to guarantee a balanced environmental system in the world.
The ministry applies all local and global criteria to preserve biological diversity but we still face many challenges, Molla said during the third-day activities of the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP14).
Mining and oil excavation have direct and indirect effect on biological diversity, he said, citing soil and sea pollution, disrupting reproduction of some living organisms and increasing internal immigration in a way that leads to the depletion of more natural resources.
He underlined the importance of taking into consideration biological diversity while carrying out mining and petroleum exploration activities.
