Feki: It is time to establish a cinema museum in Egypt

CAIRO – 26 February 2020: “It is time to establish a cinema museum in Egypt,” said Mostafa el-Feki, director of the Library of Alexandria. Egypt celebrated the centenary of cinema years ago.
These statements came after the recent sales of the personal belongings of late actor Ahmad Zaki that sparked a wave of anger in the artistic scene in Egypt.
Novelist Ibrahim Abdul Majeed commented on the subject on his official Twitter account, noting that it is about time for the artists to be granted their long-time request, and that is to establish a museum for Egyptian cinema icons.
In statements made to the press, director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina stated that all the belongings of the icons of the Egyptian Cinema throughout history should be gathered and placed in a specialized museum, suggesting the museum to be the oldest filming studio established by late Egyptian economist Talaat Harb.
Feki further affirmed that he approves of transferring the belongings of late actors currently located in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, such as the belongings of late Nour el-Sherif, to its new location in the museum once it is established.
