Pro-Muslim Brotherhood Media Defends Turkish ‘Aggression’ Against Syria

CAIRO – 9 October 2019: Pro-Muslim Brotherhood channels, unlike other media outlets of the Arab and Western states, have celebrated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's announcement of the start of the attacks in northeastern Syria.
Defending the Turkish regime while apparently violating the Syrian sovereignty can be endorsing a probability that these channels are funded by Ankara to follow a Muslim Brotherhood agenda.
A TV presenter on Turkey-based Mekameleen TV appeared reading the news about the start of the Turkish offensive, allegedly against "terrorist factions" in Syria "under the name of Peace Spring."
He added that he thinks that this offensive aims for "defending the [Turkish] territory and the Turkish citizens who have been assaulted by the IS (Islamic State) and the PKK."

At the same time, the news of the Turkish aggression against Syria reportedly disappeared from the newscasts of some other channels known for supporting the Muslim Brotherhood group, designated by many states as terrorist.
Egyptian stance
Egypt's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday affirmed the country's strong condemnation of the Turkish aggression against the Syrian territory and Syria's sovereignty.
The ministry, in a statement, called for an emergency meeting of the League of Arab States to discuss these developments and review ways to preserve Syria's sovereignty and the unity of its people and territorial integrity.
The ministry called the Turkish attacks "blatant" and "unacceptable," and denounced violations against the sovereignty of a brotherly Arab state, "while taking advantage of the circumstances and the current developments it experiences, and in contravention of the rules of international law."
The statement highlighted the responsibility of the international community, represented by the Security Council, towards addressing this "extremely dangerous development that threatens international peace and security."

The ministry called on the Security Council also to stop any efforts that aim at occupying the Syrian territory and attempts to make demographic changes in northeastern Syria.
The statement warned of the repercussions of the Turkish move on the unity and territorial integrity of Syria or the course of the political process in the Arab state in accordance with Security Council Resolution no. 2254.
Arab League
Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit expressed deep concern over Turkish plans for conducting an imminent military operation in the Syrian territories.
In a press statement on Wednesday, an official source in the AL general secretariat described the planned Turkish offensive as a blatant violation against Syrian sovereignty and a serious threat to Syria's territorial integrity.
He warned that a Turkish military incursion would worsen the already fragile Syrian security and humanitarian conditions and give Daesh terrorist group the opportunity to restore part of its lost strength in the conflict-hit Arab country.
