Ministry of Tourism starts sterilizing archaeological sites, museums nationwide

CAIRO – 23 March 2020: The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities will start on Monday sterilizing the archaeological sites and museums across the countryas part of the precautionary measures taken by the state to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (covid-19).
The ministry launched a campaign to sterilize museums and archaeological sites in Alexandria and Rashid.
Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mustafa al-Waziri explained that the sterilizationprocess takes place in accordance with the international standards for disinfection,and using the materials approved by the Ministry of Health.
Protective and sterilization tools, as well as gloves, masks and disinfectants were providedto all workers.
The ministry had decided to close all archaeological sites and museums in Egypt fromMarch 23-31, for sterilization and disinfection.
The Ministry of Tourism has cleaned four important archaeological sites inside Cairo and Giza, within the framework of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' efforts to keepits employees safe. The areas included the Giza Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum of Liberation, the Salahuddin Castle, and the Saqqara Archeology Zone.
