Cairo’s City of the Dead celebrates life with kite competition on July 6

CAIRO – 3 July 2020: Kite flying has become a sign of holding on to hope in a time when almost every fun activity has been banned for months or is slowly and cautiously returning. In support of such joyous traditions, ARCHiNOS and the Sultan Foundation are hosting a children's kite competition in Cairo's historic City of the Dead.
Held under the title "The Sky is the Limit", the competition will take place from 4-6 p.m. on July 6 near the Maq'ad of Sultan Qaitbey and will give children of the neighborhood a chance to win some incredible prizes funded by Alex Bank.
"Amazing prizes will be awarded for the kite with the best design, the highest kite in the air and the largest kite flying more than 15 minutes. A jury of four people, including a community representative, will be judging," ARCHiNOS stated in a press release.
The event comes as part of the ongoing EU and Drosos-funded project "Heritage for the living in the City of the Dead." The event operators stressed that all safety precautions, including social distancing, will be taken at the event to protect the community.
